4 day Tay Descent

(Killin to Stanley)

£400 per person

28th April to 1st May

1st August to 4th August

Day 1: Paddling Loch Tay with the option of Sailing, (wind permitting) down Beautiful Loch Tay Camping on Priory Island near Kenmore. This deserted island hosts history dating back to Queen Sybila in the 11 century and more recently a 16th century derelict enclave.

Day 2: Leaving the Loch behind and starting the venture down the largest volume river in the UK. Great water for practising those river skills interspersed with rapids such as “Chinese Bridge” “Church pool rapid” the “fisherman's rapid” finishing the day above Grandtully rapids, home of the Scottish Canoe Associations (SCA) international slalom site. Camping at the SCA campsite offering a chance for a warm shower and a hot meal in the local restaurant or bar.

Day 3: Putting in below Grandtully rapids (option of the paddle for the brave!) the river meanders through arable land and forest weaving its way downstream, alongside the Ruin of the Cathedral before travelling under the picturesque bridge marking the town of Dunkeld. The vista changes to sand bars and drift wood filling overhanging tree branches before meeting our riverside wild camp.

Day 4: The river winds at a lower pace through a managed landscape before reaching Campsie Linn, and the start of the Stanley rapids. The option to run the rapids is up to you as you can get out above or below. Loading the canoes and then a celebratory warm Stovie and drink to conclude your expedition.
